Newsletter to the members of Schoemanpark Golf Club 8 September 2024
The change in season is so welcome and watching life returning to dormant trees and grasses is just amazing. This is the perfect time to spend time and money on the greens, and although it is uncomfortable for a few days, the Verti Drain proves to transform them into something special.
This immediately leads me to the repair of pitchmarks as requested so often. Red soil has been obtained and another major operation of levelling teeboxes is to commence soon. As far as greenkeeping, we are getting close to appointing a new greenkeeper. On this point, I believe we can honour our ground staff who have kept our course in mint shape over the past three months. As golf is regarded as a sport played by gentlemen, all players are reminded that it should be played in the spirit it was designed for.
If 3 players need to institute the pivot rule, it is important that the lowest handicap player pays the required competition fee before play and then acts as the pivot.
Due to the popularity of the current Fitchet Cup, we aim to grow this event, and once the current competition is concluded we urge more members to participate next time.
The popular Stella matchplay is heading for an exciting close, and will be a permanent fixture on or
calendar.
As far as the renewal of membership fees, we encourage members to engage during October. Early
payments will carry a handsome discount offer!
The Rose Festival is around the corner, and as it is back to a 3-day event from 23 October we urge
members to keep the tradition alive and well.
More sand will be added to the bunkers once transport arrangements are in place.
In general, things are going well with our club and more projects will follow in time.
Please notice that the out-of-bounds on 1 and 15 have been moved to where the original fence once was. This is yet another effort to create more enjoyment from the game.
